Bitcoin glossary
A batch of transactions added to the chain roughly every ten minutes.
A block is a batch of transactions plus a header that links cryptographically to the previous block — hence “blockchain”. Miners compete to produce the next one; a new block arrives on average every ten minutes and pays its miner the block reward.
Each block buries the ones before it deeper, which is why more “confirmations” mean stronger settlement: rewriting a transaction six blocks down requires redoing six blocks of world-scale work.
