The misspelling that became Bitcoin’s word for long-term conviction holding.
HODL began as a typo of “hold” in a famously emotional 2013 forum post and became Bitcoin’s term for holding through volatility rather than trading. Retroactively it acquired the backronym “Hold On for Dear Life”.
Behind the meme is a strategy: long-term holders treat drawdowns as noise around adoption, and historically the patient cohort has been the one that kept its coins. It pairs naturally with DCA.
