Solo mining as a service: win a block, keep (almost) the whole reward; win nothing, earn nothing. Famous for the occasional David-vs-Goliath block find.
Solo CKPool is not really a pool — it is solo mining as a service. Point any hashrate at it and you mine for the whole block reward yourself: find a block, keep ~98% of everything; find nothing, earn nothing. Every few months a miner with a single S9 or a Bitaxe wins one, and the story goes around the world.
It suits lottery-minded small miners and anyone running a heater-miner who prefers a tiny chance of 3+ BTC to a trickle of dust. As expected-value strategy it is identical to pooled mining; as a hobby it is infinitely more fun. Verifiable by design — there is nothing to hide when there are no shared payouts.
